SAC Tools Releases
Files
SAC released only a few tools during the years. SAC was not a tool group. The PPE section was removed for the same reason, even if it looked like a good fit at the beginning. The tools are nothing special and were primarily for internal use only. There are certainly better tools available from others, which do a better job, but to be consistent and to make sure that the collection is complete, did I put them up for download on the site anyway.
SAC ANSI Factory V0.6p - ANSI/ASCII art editor for Windows.
It works, but if you look for a good editor, check the downloads further above on this page.

SAC View - Artpack viewer for Windows
The viewer was introduced with SAC Pack #25 and was used to show the content of the artpack on Windows PCs. If you are looking for a good ANSI/ASCII art viewer for Windows, check out ACIDView for Windows, which is available fro download on this page too.

SAC Pack Installer
The installer was used to install a SAC Pack on a Windows computer for the not so computer savvy audience who might wants to look at an old artpack, but does not know who to unzip a pack release file.

Tools for PCBoard Bulletin Board System (BBS) Software ©Clark Development Company
SAC had for a short period of time a PPE Section. Coders that programmed little plug-ins or widgets for the popular BBS Software PC Board by Clark Development. This wasn't too much of a conflict, because the BBS Software (and the plug-ins) used a lot of ANSI. I programmed myself a bunch PPE's for my own BBS. SAC PPE was later split up from the rest of SAC and created its own group (We realized that that makes even more sense). You can't do anything with the scripts below, if you don't have the PCB Software. You can look at the code, because SAC/PNS PPE always released the source code with its tools. ASCII & ANSI Editors for MS DOS and Windows

The Draw 4.61 (PC/MS DOS) The Draw 4.61 (PC/MS DOS) The Draw 4.61 - ASCII/ANSI Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 291KB
TheDraw is a DOS tool to create and modify ASCIIs and ANSIs, especially ANSIs and block ASCIIs which are not supported by Windows anymore. The program runs stable in a DOS Window and even the mouse is still working. I personally use TheDraw since 1992 as replacement for the crappy tool "AnsiDraw" which I have also available, if you like "pain" hehe. I never made the switch to ACiDDraw as so many others, even if it had some more features than TheDraw which was IMO superior to ACiDView at the beginning. You will probably have a bit of a hard time if DOS is completely alien to you, but give it a shot anyway. It's fun.

TheDraw ANSI Editor for MS DOSTheDraw 4.63 (Registered)

Note! I have over 100 ANSI & ASCII font sets available for download for the use in TheDraw.
Check out my .TDF (TheDraw Fonts File) collection here!

AcidDraw ACiDDraw ANSI Editor for MS DOS ACiDDraw V1.25 - ANSI Editor for MS DOS - 82KB
In the early ninties was the ASCII and ANSI text art scene split in half. Not really as bad as you might think though. The artists at that time either used ACiDDraw or TheDraw, the only two editiors that provided the features needed by the leading text artists. TheDraw was the older one and lead the pack for a while, but ACiDDraw catched up and became towards the end of the MS DOS and BBS realm the predominant editor. It's greatest feature was the support of virtually unlimited lines on ANSI vs TheDraw which was limited to a maximum of 100 lines. Artists that created ANSI's beyond 100 lines were rare though.
PabloDraw V2.0.8.70. Text Editor for Windows PabloDraw V0.92 - for MSDOS - 377 KB
The MS DOS version of the popular Windows Editor with the same name. If you want to go with a MS DOS editor rather than a Windows one (e.g. if you are a Macintosh user), you are better off using TheDraw or ACiDDraw. Windows users should use the Windows version of this editor. I only put the DOS version up for history sake.
PabloDraw PabloDraw V3.2.1 Text Editor for Windows incl. Console PabloDraw V3.2.1 - Text Editor for Windows PC - 5.33MB (incl. Console)
Previous versions: V2.0.8.70 (Src.Code), V2.0.7.44 (Src.Code), V2.0.6.35 (Src.Code), V2.0.5, V2.0.3, V2.0.2, V1.0.98, original

Who said ANSI and ASCII is dead? Well, welcome to ANSI design in Web 2.0. This WINDOWS ANSI editor works online and allows you to hook up with multiple people and mess around in the same ANSI file and chat at the same time. After the "it" or "mash"" is "done", excuse me, BETA. People often have a hard time to make sense out that online "collaboration" between the artists who are all happy about that fact hehe. I think I am too old for this, but I don't like it personally. This does not mean that it would not be perfect for you. Give it a shot. PabloDraw is using DirectX and supports full screen mode (640x400, 640x480), 80x50, 80x25 and Amiga font support, always-on VGA preview pane, draw and chat with your friends with multi-user editing, full ANSI editing capabilities, keyboard shortcuts similar to other popular DOS-based editors, loads binary, ANSI, and ASCII files, and more
ASCII Factory V0.6 ASCII Factory V0.6 - Simple ASCII Editor for Windows - 782 KB
ASCII Factory was developed by some members of my art scene group Superior Art Creations (SAC). The basic functions of this editor work, but you can tell that it is and remained still in beta. It also does not support ANSI and only colorless ASCII, which is kind of a bummer. It is more of a novelty and you are better off using any of the other editors available on this page.
TundraDraw Tundra Draw 0.5 Beta 1 ANSI Editor for Windows Tundra Draw 0.5 Beta 1 - ANSI Editor for Windows - 4.4 MB
This fairly new editor gained some popularity, but I have to be honest, I haven't even looked at it yet. I stick to what I know, which is TheDraw for MS DOS. But this editor might be an alternative to PabloDraw for Windows which I heard from some is quite cumbersome to use. TundraDraw is a cross-platform ANSI drawing program written with C++, using the Qt Toolkit.
TetraDraw TetraDraw V2.0.2 ANSI Editor Source Code TetraDraw V2.0.2 - ANSI Editor Source Code - 265 KB
Code by John McCutchan. He released it under the GPL license so feel free to utilize the code as you see fit in yout own application. See the readme. file within the archive for compiling instructions.
ElyEdit V1.3(Win32) ElyEdit V1.3(Win32) - BBS Text Editor - 331 KB
This editor for Windows supports everything BUT ANSI. It supports ASCII and numerous proprietary color code formats from various BBS systems from back in the days, including Wildcat (WC), PCBoard (PCB), pipe, SANSI / SANSI databases, Sync, Telegard (TG), and Adept color codes.
AnsiDraw 2.4 (PC/MS DOS) Ansidraw Ansidraw V2.4 - (very) Old ASCII/ANSI Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 20KB
I am warning you, this tool from Amrich Enterprises was written at the end of the eighties and the oldest ANSI editor I know about for the PC. I am amazed by the fact that it is still running on Windows machines almost no other tools do. Well, It was even back then when it was "new" already a pain in the butt. Note when you do ANSI. You can save an ANSI, but you can not load it. Only ASCIIs can be loaded. Nothing can be beyond 23 Lines that's all what it got. READ the main key combinations screen when the program starts. Trust me, you will "regret it" if you don't. Okay. You get out by either terminating the window :) or the very obvious and common key combination SHIFT-F10. Here are some other keyboard short-cuts that might help. I created about 10-12 ANSIs with this piece of junk until the salvation came in the form of TheDraw!
NFO Builder 2000 NFO Builder 2000 - ASCII/NFO/DIZ Editor (PC/Win) - 119KB
A simple NFO File/File_ID.diz ASCII Editor for Windows by Elton (aka Genom). It is used like Window Paint, but to create text art for your group NFO instead of vga images. Entirely mouse-driven. Some pre-defined patterns, copy/cut'n paste, fill and rotate features. No keyboad support (which means nothing for me :) ). Easy to use for somebody who is familar with the Windows environment and gets the job done, no learning curve.
ANSI Viewers
ANSI Viewers for MS DOS and Windows

PabloView PabloView V0.91 ASCII/ANSI Viewer for Windows PC PabloView V0.91 - ASCII/ANSI Viewer for Windows PC - 380KB
Written by Curtis Wensley aka Eto who also wrote the currently popular Windows ANSI editor PabloDraw. The viewer supports: Ansi/Avatar/XBin/Idf/Adf/Binary/CG character files, RIP vector files and Jpeg/Gif/Png/Tiff/Bmp image files in addition to features like modem speed simulation (some ANSIs (animations) were timed for that) and VGA display modes.
AcidView 6.1 for Windows 32 bit ACiD View 6.1 ANSI & ASCII Viewer (PC/Win) ACiD View 6.1 - ANSI & ASCII Viewer (PC/Win) - 226KB
ACiDView for Windows is actually one of the few tools that can display ANSI and block ASCII 100% correctly under Windows (no DOS Window). ACiDView for MS DOS was a very popular viewer back in the days. It was always distributed for free with every months ACiD art package. The DOS version of ACiDView (which has more features) does not run under Windows 2K or XP. I still recommend to use this Windows version of the tool.
ACiDView V4.63 ASCII/ANSI Viewer for MS DOS ACiDView V4.63 - ASCII/ANSI Viewer for MS DOS - 180KB
The classic ACiD Viewer whos latest version was always delivered with each new ACiD art pack that was released. It was pretty much the standard viewer used by most people. I was unfortunately not able to get it to work properly under Windows XP. It keeps crashing. I decided to put it up for download anyway. Unless you plan to run it on an old machine or use a MS DOS emulator software like DOS BOX, download the Windows 32 version of the viewer instead (also available for download here on this site).
VGA Editors
VGA Editors (for DOS only)

Deluxe Paint II Enhanced V3.0 (PC/MS DOS) Deluxe Paint II Enhanced V3.0 (PC/MS DOS) Deluxe Paint II Enhanced V3.0 - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 547KB
Deluxe Paint was THE pixel graphics tool on the AMIGA 500. The PC version came a bit later and development was not continued on the PC like on the Amiga, where DP made it to version 4 before it was stopped there as well. It was still ahead of its time when it came out.

At that time was MS Paint for Windows 3.0 quite "hip" and "Autodesk Animator" (the maker of AutoCad) the McLaren F1 of PC pixel software.

This version of Deluxe Paint is the "enhanced version" which supports "Super VGA" (256 colors BEYOND 320x200) to some degree (not really, but they made an effort). It should still run on most people's Windows XP PC.
Deluxe Paint Animation (PC/MS DOS) Deluxe Paint Animation - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 374KB
Deluxe Paint Animation was a special version of Deluxe Paint that supported the creation of animations in the propriatary format .ANM. It only supports the standard VGA resolution of 320x200 pixels and 256 colors. Animation features were part of the standard feature of newer versions of DP on the Amiga, which were not ported to the IBM PC.

There is a video codec for Windows that enables the playback of Deluxe Paint Animation files via Windows Media Player. You can download the Deluxe Paint Animation ANM codec here (94 KB).
Autodesk Animator Pro (PC/MS DOS) Autodesk Animator Pro (PC/MS DOS) Autodesk Animator Pro - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 1,100 KB
Autodesk Animator Pro is a very function rich image editor for MS DOS that also has many nice tools and functionalities to create animations (videos). The program works with GIF and PCX images and uses the videos format .FLI (FLIC) for the animations. The editor supports Super VGA. I believe up to a resolution of 1024x768 and 256 Colors. The animator features are limited to standard VGA as far as I can recall.

To be able to play-back AAPro FLIC videos on your Windows 32/64 bit PC and Windows Media Player, you need to install a special video codec first. You can download the Autodesk Animator V1.11 Codec here
Pixler Pixler 1.0 Beta 3 - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 537 KB
Pixler 1.0 Beta 3 by Rage from 1997 is a free Deluxe Paint clone for MS DOS. It is actually more a clone of the Amiga Version of Deluxe Paint 4 and has many features of that version, which is missing the the Deluxe Paint 2 version for the PC.
GraphX 2 GraphX 2.0 Beta - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 449 KB
GraphX 2.0 Beta 96.1% by Sunset Design is a pixel graphics program for MS DOS, which supports 60 different graphic modes and multiple image formats such as GIF, LBM, BMP, PCX and PKM
Master Draw 3.6 Master Draw 3.6 - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 155 KB
Master Draw V3.6 by Arkham is a free pixel graphics paint program for MS DOS with SVGA support.
VGA Paint VGA Paint 386 Home V1.3 - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 326 KB
VGA Paint 386 V1.3 is another free Deluxe Paint clone for MS DOS. It supports various graphics formats, including LBM/IFF, BMP, PCX, PBM and PPM. It supports Vesa 1.2 and 2.0 SVGA and Win95 long file names.
DeluxeDraw DeluxeDraw 2.01 Demo - Image Editor (PC/MS DOS) - 342 KB
DeluxeDraw 2.01 Demo Version by Timothy Edwin Roden from 1998. A DeluxePaint Animation clone, but with support of SVGA. Its unfortunately not free like the other DP clones. This demo version does not allow to save your images.
Flash Video Codecs Flash Video Codecs - 370 KB
Not exactly a VGA editor for MS DOS, but there was not a better category to put this under. :) To enable the playback of .FLV video animations via Windows Media Player, you have to install a codec for FLV files. You can download two FLV codecs here (371 KB). Read the "readme.txt" file that is included in the zip archive, which explains how to install the codec on your Microsoft Windows computer.

Very feature rich Images to ANSI/ASCII converter, which produces great results. It allows adjustment of contrast and brightness in real time, also flipping and rotating of the original image. The results produced by ASCgen dotNet are the best that I have seen so far.
JAVE JavE 5 for Windows/Unix & Mac - 1 MB

Sound Trackers
Sound Trackers for DOS (The Classics)

I would try using the Windows trackers first before you go and check out the old DOS classics. If you want to use the old DOS tools, I suggest using a DOS emulator (see tools above) and work with them in the emulation. There are also other options and ways to make them work on todays machine. Included for example a tuturial for how to make the DOS ImpulseTracker work in a 32Bit environment, whithout the need of running it within a full blown DOS emulation such as DOSBox or others.

All of those three trackers, which represent together (personal opinion of fineover 99% PC tracker music "market-share" are capable of reading and writing standard Amiga 4-channel "Sound/Pro-Ttracker" .MOD tunes, in addition to their own indivdual propriatory MOD formats.

Are you into old C64 SID, PC Adlib or old NES Console beep-music? Check out the following:

There are a lot more trackers available for MS DOS and also for Windows; overwhelmingly more, if you include the countless trackers and sound editors on the Commodore plarforms like the C64 or the Commodore Amiga computers. I might add a few more in the future. I am already listing the most important and most widesly used trackers for the IBM PC and compatible.
